Cliff and Jeani Poe are college sweethearts who have been married for over 50 years and have navigated the different seasons of life and relationships. After 17 years together, their marriage imploded. Trust was broken and had to be rebuilt if they were to continue as a couple. They lacked the tools and skills to rebuild their hurting relationship.
Although one counselor told them they should get a divorce, they decided to fight for their relationship and build a new marriage – one that would be healthy and mutually fulfilling. This began a journey to discover the best tools to rebuild their marriage. It wasn’t easy!
As Jeani often says, “Creating a good marriage is the hardest job you’ll ever love.” Indeed, as they worked to rebuild their life together, they faced job loss, bankruptcy, an empty nest, health issues, and loss of their home and community. Far from having a perfect life or marriage, they continue to grow and face challenges together.
Their passion is helping other couples live a life they will love with the love of their life! Their motto is, “You don’t have to – you get to!”
When the Poe’s are not helping couples, they enjoy spending time with their adult son and daughter and their families, which include six grandchildren and a Golden Retriever.
Their coaching style focuses on sharing their experiences and speaking the truth in love. Their depth of experience allows them to be nonjudgmental as they encourage couples to follow practical and actionable steps to growth and healing.
Their relationship philosophy is to love and be loved unselfishly and unconditionally.
As they have coached couples across three decades, they have learned that most marital problems come from selfishness. “If I can forget myself and my needs and focus on you and what you need, it frees me to love unselfishly and unconditionally. To do that requires trusting God to see that my needs are met.”
What sets them apart from other coaches?
As a husband-wife team, they can offer both perspectives, helping couples see both sides of the issue from both the male and female perspectives. This also allows them to do “one-offs”—Cliff with males and Jeani with females.
